What started as a photography experiment turned into something far more than I would have ever dreamed!

Sunday, March 28, 2010 -was a lazy gray rainy day in Fort Mill SC. My wife and daughter were snuggled up napping the day away. I had this photography experiment in my head and figured there was no better time to give it a shot.

My friend and pastor at the time –Talbot Davis is an avid tennis player and fan. My plan was to have my photograph printed and give it to him if the experiment were successful.

This experiment included two Alien Bee 800 strobes, one reflector, a tennis ball hanging from a fish line, and an incense stick.

A few short weeks after shooting, I witnessed my friend’s reaction when he opened the box that contained a 12-inch by 36-inch metal print of the Smoken’ Ace. There is still no better feeling than to do something for someone with nothing expected in return!

Several months passed -answering questions along with relishing in the attention that the image received on my Flickr. It was there I received a private message from around the world in Malaysia -inquiring about purchasing a usage right for the BMW Malaysia Open. On December 13, 2010, the contract was signed and funds cleared my Paypal.

Seeing this image on billboards in Malaysia, the trophy, and general usage continues to leave me shaking my head in disbelief.
